Content Design/UX – Vote Auckland website

In the 2019 local elections, the Vote Auckland website needed to provide information for both candidates and voters. Auckland Council wanted to make sure that the pool of mayoral and councillor candidates best reflected the diversity of the city. They needed a website that was simple to understand and easy to navigate in order to remove as many barriers as possible to potential candidates or voters.
I was the content lead on the Vote Auckland website. I worked closely with the Auckland Council Governance team, the Electoral Officer, and a range of developers and digital and UX designers. I helped deliver a website that provided clear, engaging information about the election that catered to both candidates and voters.
My goal was to provide information that would cater to a diverse range of people, taking into account reading ability, English proficiency and accessibility, among other things.
Throughout the election period, I was able to adapt the website as needed, responding to both scheduled regulatory touchpoints and unexpected issues that arose along the way.
The website’s customer satisfaction score sat at around 80%. This was considerably higher than that of the larger Auckland Council website, which usually sat at around 50%..
The candidate pool for the 2019 election was large and diverse, reflecting the city itself.
The Vote Auckland website won the supreme award at the Auckland Council Digital Innovation Awards in 2019.
